Fiberglass Insulation Kansas City

Most of the fiberglass we find underperforming was not the wrong product. It was compressed, gapped around wiring, or stopped short at the eaves where it mattered most.

Installation Quality Decides the Result

A batt reaches its rated R-value only when it fills the cavity edge to edge at full loft, cut around obstructions rather than crushed past them. Stuffed behind a wire, squashed by a cross brace or left with a finger gap at the stud, it gives up a large share of its rating. The material is rarely at fault; the fit almost always is, and a quick look in the attic usually tells the story.

Where Fiberglass Is the Right Call

It is a sound, economical choice in a simple well-vented attic and in cavities with easy uninterrupted access. It does not air seal, so where air movement is the actual fault we will say foam is the better spend rather than selling the cheaper line. In a climate that swings as hard as this one, air movement is the fault more often than people expect.

Batts, Blown Fiberglass and Cellulose

Batts suit open, regular framing. Blown fiberglass suits an attic floor with irregular joist spacing and adds almost no load to the ceiling. Cellulose is denser and resists air movement better but holds water more readily, which matters if there is any history of a roof leak. None of the three is simply better; the assembly and the moisture history decide.

What Should Happen Before It Goes In

The ceiling plane sealed at recessed lights, top plates, plumbing penetrations and the attic hatch. Any damp or contaminated material removed rather than covered. Ventilation checked, because fiberglass does nothing to manage moisture on its own. Material laid over an unsealed leaking ceiling is the most common way an attic job disappoints.

Questions

Common questions

Is fiberglass worse than spray foam?

It is different. Fiberglass slows heat transfer but does not stop air movement, and air movement is the fault in most underperforming buildings here.

Can batts go over existing insulation?

Sometimes, if what is there is dry and uncompacted. Laying new material over damp insulation traps the problem.

Why is my insulated attic still uncomfortable?

Usually because the ceiling below it was never air sealed, so conditioned air moves straight through the material regardless of its depth.
