Crawl Space Insulation Kansas City

Who does not want a home that is less expensive to run and more comfortable to live in?

The Right Insulation for Under the House

Many crawl spaces carry the wrong insulation, or none at all. We specialize in sealing and insulating crawl spaces into clean, efficient spaces that make the whole home more comfortable. Closed cell foam resists the moisture that ruins loose-fill materials under a house.

Cold Floors Are the Tell

If your floors are chilly and your energy costs are rising, the crawl space is the first suspect. Contact us for a free consultation and estimate: (816) 410-4111, or see all our insulation services.

Humid Summers, Cold Winters, One Crawl Space

A vented crawl space here takes in humid outside air all summer, which condenses on the cooler underside of the floor, and then takes in freezing air all winter, which is what you feel through the floorboards. The same vents cause both problems in opposite seasons, which is why the original venting logic does not hold up in this climate.

Floor System or Encapsulation

Insulating the floor system puts foam between the joists and leaves the crawl space vented and outside the envelope. Encapsulating seals the vents, lays a sealed ground barrier and insulates the perimeter walls, bringing the space inside the envelope. Where ductwork runs through the crawl space, encapsulation is usually the stronger argument. The house and the moisture picture decide it.

Moisture First, Without Exception

Standing water, a failed or missing ground barrier, grading that directs water toward the house, or a plumbing leak all get addressed before insulation goes in. Foam installed over an active moisture problem does not fix it; it makes it harder to see and harder to reach.

What a Crawl Space Scope Should Name

The approach, the product and the thickness, in writing. The ground barrier specified with its seams and edges detailed, where the space is being encapsulated. Rim joists addressed, because they are a significant air path that routinely gets skipped. Ductwork and plumbing accounted for rather than simply foamed around.

Questions

Common questions

Why insulate a crawl space?

Ground moisture cools your floors and works into the framing; sealing the crawl space stops both and lightens the load on your heating and cooling.

What material do you use in crawl spaces?

Closed-cell spray foam, because it insulates and acts as a moisture barrier in one application.

Do you inspect before quoting?

Yes. Every crawl space is assessed in person and the written estimate names the product, thickness and areas covered.
